At 20 kVA, a UPS is almost always protecting something whose downtime is expensive — a server room, a diagnostic wing, a process line, or a network core. The specification questions change accordingly: this is three-phase territory, redundancy starts to matter, and generator compatibility becomes essential. Here is what to look for in a 20 kVA online UPS in India, and what drives the cost.

20 kVA Is Three-Phase Territory

Paradyne's 20 kVA online UPS is a three-phase system: it accepts a three-phase 300-450V input, delivers a regulated 400V ±1% three-phase output, and runs on a 360V DC bus. Three-phase distribution balances the load across phases, lowers per-phase current, and reduces conductor heating — important at this power level. It remains a true double-conversion online UPS with zero transfer time, sub-3% harmonic distortion, an output power factor of 0.8 lagging to unity, and 110% overload for 10 minutes.

Redundancy: When One Unit Isn't Enough

For loads that genuinely cannot drop, a single UPS is a single point of failure. Two common approaches:

  • N+1 with a static transfer switch — a static transfer switch can shift the load between sources in under 6 ms, enabling maintenance without dropping the load.

Generator Compatibility

Most 20 kVA installs sit behind a DG set for extended outages.
