Cold storage and solar-hybrid sites share a hard power problem: large inductive loads with heavy startup inrush, often combined with generators and solar. Sizing a UPS here is less about steady-state watts and more about surviving compressor startup and integrating cleanly with other sources. Get it wrong and the UPS trips on inrush or the cold chain breaks.
Compressors Mean Inrush
Refrigeration compressors and motors draw several times their running current at startup for a brief moment. A UPS sized only to the running load will overload at every start. Size with generous headroom for inrush, and prefer a topology that handles motor loads gracefully. Beyond the compressors, cold storage relies on controllers, sensors, alarms, and monitoring that must never lose power — a true double-conversion online UPS keeps these running with zero transfer time and a clean true sinewave output. Many sites split the design: ride-through UPS for controls and instrumentation, with the generator carrying the bulk refrigeration load during long outages.
Generator and Solar Integration
Hybrid sites combine grid, DG, and solar.
